How to Make Valentine’s Day Fluffy Button Trees

In 2023, I made some seashell Christmas trees using some paper cones. I had lots of extra cones, and started to think of new ways to craft with them. With Valentine’s Day being a great holiday to create more DIY crafts, I decided to use some cones to make some pink themed trees. They ended up being a very quick and easy holiday craft. Read on to learn how I made my Valentine’s Day Fluffy Button Trees.

My Seashell Trees

You can use paper cones to make many types of holiday trees. My seashell trees were made using some Pinnidae or Pen shells. I chose ones that had been “baked” by the sun for a while because they become an iridescent white color over time. This made them look like they had snow on them, making pieces of the shells become the perfect winter trees. See that craft tutorial on my website here.

Year-Round Holiday Trees

I have noticed a trend in people keeping a Christmas tree in their home all year round and decorating it for each holiday. It makes sense if you like to decorate for all the holidays and if you don’t like having to drag a tree out once a year, only to enjoy it for a month. Here are some cute Valentine ornaments you could hang on a Christmas tree if you like to do this trend:

Now for the project. These fluffy trees are easy and quick and can be tailored to your own tastes. I chose to use buttons to decorate mine but there are plenty of Valentine’s charms and décor out there that you could use instead.

If you want to create similar trees, here is what you need. If you shop Temu (I got some of my supplies from Temu as their prices were very budget friendly) and are a new user, use my link here or my code afe55197 for 30% off.

How-To:

Heat your glue gun up to a low heat setting. Apply some glue to the bottom of a paper cone and add your tulle trim to the glue. Repeat on each of the cones (I made three), cutting the tulle off after it has been applied to the bottom of each cone.

Next, add some more glue above the tulle trim (I worked in small sections) and start gluing on the yarn.

I added glue, then spiraled the yarn around each cone. I made sure to spiral the yarn close together so you wouldn’t see the paper cone underneath.

At the top of the tree, cut the yarn off and glue the top to completely cover the tip of the cone.

I added hot glue to some larger buttons and glued them sporadically around the tree, on to the yarn.

Gluing on the buttons

I added a second small button on top of each large button using glue and I also added some tiny buttons on their own around the trees too to fill them in a bit more.

I layered some of the buttons

I added some Liquid Fusion to the stacked button centers and used my wax tip pencil to grab some rhinestones and added them to the glue. I made sure to add a thin layer of glue so they wouldn’t slide and ooze off the buttons.

I added some hot glue to the top of the tree and added my tree topper, a wood heart.

The trees reminded me sort of soft serve ice cream spiraled on top of a cone. They are very simple, but super cute! If you try to make some, let me know how they turned out in the comments below!
