The Creative Inspiration
I’ve had this police-style hat for about 2 years. I’ve put in on the back burner of my creations but knew I’d get to doing something with it eventually. Then 2026 hit and I had a vibe that gave me the theme: PARTY. 2026 will be a big birthday year for my husband, my nephew will turn 16 and my niece will graduate high school and begin college. It’s a year of parties and celebrations and I knew this hat would give me the energy needed for such a year.

My Love of Statement Hats
After creating it, I realized this hat didn’t just arrive at the party, it took over. If you’ve ever put on an accessory and instantly felt like the main character, you already understand the power of a statement hat. This is the kind of bold fashion moment that turns heads, sparks conversations, and somehow ends up in everyone’s camera roll. I also love colorful wigs, which are basically a hat, right? LOL!

In a world of minimal outfits and neutral basics, a standout accessory is what separates a cute look from a viral one. And right now, statement hats are having a major moment. I adore some of my junk trucker hats, especially my Sunshine Vibes hat. See that tutorial here or below via my YouTube channel @carolynjbraden:
Why Statement Hats Are Trending Right Now
Fashion trends come and go, but bold accessories always circle back—especially when social media is driving style inspiration. Statement hats are everywhere right now because they:
Instantly elevate even the simplest outfit
Create a focal point for photos and videos
Bring personality, humor, and confidence to your look
Are perfect for party content, reels, and short-form video
From birthday celebrations to bachelorette weekends and holiday parties, hats are no longer an afterthought—they’re the star of the outfit.
Why Accessories Matter More Than Ever
Accessories are having a moment because they allow you to express your personality without overhauling your entire wardrobe. A single statement piece can:
Refresh outfits you already own
Make your content stand out online
Turn everyday looks into viral moments
Save time while still looking styled
This is proof that sometimes the smallest detail—like the right hat—can make the biggest impact.
Call the Party Police on this hat as it steals the show!
The Main Character Effect: One Hat, Endless Compliments
Let’s be honest: this is the kind of hat that makes people stop mid-conversation to ask, “Where did you get that?” It’s bold without trying too hard, playful without being too costume-y, and confident in a way that says you’re not afraid to have fun with fashion.
The best part? You don’t need a complicated outfit when the accessory does all the work. This hat brings instant main character energy—and yes, the party police may need to be called because it’s stealing all the attention.

How to Style a Statement Hat for a Party
You don’t have to overthink it. When the hat is loud, let everything else stay simple. Here are a few easy ways to style it:
1. Keep the Outfit Neutral
Pair your statement hat with a black dress, denim, or a monochrome outfit so the accessory stays front and center.
2. Balance the Drama
If the hat is bold, skip too much heavy jewelry. Let one piece shine instead of competing for attention.
3. Think Photo-First
This hat looks amazing on camera. Angle it slightly, play with lighting, and let it do its thing—perfect for Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest pins.
4. Confidence Is the Real Styling Trick
A statement hat only works if you wear it like you meant to. Stand tall, have fun, and let the compliments roll in.

How to Create Your Own Party Police Hat
You’ll need some items to create your own party police hat. Links go out to either the brand website, Amazon, CVS, Walmart, Sam’s Club, Target, or Temu, where we source our supplies based on discounts, budget and pricing.
The supplies
Don’t feel like making one? Buy one on Amazon…start your search here!
Police style hat (for costume purposes, I can’t find the one I bought, but this hat is similar or this one would work as it already has some cute netting)
Letter patches (mine were sticky backed)
Flatback Rhinestones (my set included a wax pencil and glue similar to what I used)
Optional: mini hair combs
Adding some tulle
First, I wrapped some tulle around the front of the hat, folding it a bit to fit, and hot glued it around the back. I hot glued on some studs to conceal the seam.
Adding the letters
Next I added the letters “PARTY” to the front of the hat, using their sticky backs for placement, then I added hot glue (on a low temp) to make them last.
Adding some details
Then I draped some tulle along the front of the hat above the letters and hot glued it on sporadically, covering the hot glue with jumbo rhinestones.
I used Liquid Fusion glue to add studs to the brim of the hat.
Draping the tulle on the top of the hat
I draped some more tulle along the top of the hat, hot gluing it as I draped.
Adding some disco balls
I hot glued on some mini disco balls.
Adding the rhinestones
I applied some Liquid Fusion glue to the brim of the hat and used my wax tip pencil to add flatback rhinestones.
Figuring out placement for the hair combs
I hot glued on some hair combs on the bottom edge of the hat (one on each side) to help it stay on my head as it was a little big on me.
My hat is pure joy…my joy!
I let it dry overnight and then it was party ready!
Final Thoughts: Call the Party Police (Again)
If fashion is about having fun, this hat understood the assignment. It’s bold, playful, confidence-boosting, and impossible to ignore. So yes, call the party police—because this accessory is absolutely stealing the show, and honestly? We love to see it.
