Easy DIY Birdcage Veil Bow Hair Comb You Can Make in Minutes
If you love vintage-inspired fashion, feminine accessories, and easy crafts that look boutique-worthy, this lightweight DIY Birdcage Veil Bow Hair Comb is such a fun project to make. I created mine in about 20 minutes, and it instantly added a soft retro vibe to my hairstyle without feeling heavy or uncomfortable.
What I love most about this DIY hair accessory is how lightweight it is. Heavy hair clips and accessories can cause headaches after wearing them for a while, but this airy tulle bow comb feels soft and comfortable enough for everyday wear. It easily slides into a 60’s-inspired half-up hairstyle like I styled here, but it also looks adorable with ponytails, loose curls, messy buns, or however you love to wear your hair.
The best part? You can customize this DIY birdcage bow hair comb in any color to match weddings, birthdays, bridal showers, tea parties, holiday outfits, costumes, or even casual everyday looks. Read on to learn how to I did it and how you can too!

DIY Bridal Birdcage Veil Bow Hair Comb Idea
Supplies You’ll Need
tulle fabric in your favorite color (I used this Russian Birdcage Veil Tulle, also called Millinery Netting)
Matching thread
Needle (get thread and needles in this sewing kit)
Small ribbon that matches the tulle
Scissors
Felt piece (optional no-sew method)
How to Make a DIY Birdcage Veil Bow Hair Comb
This easy DIY hair accessory only takes a few simple steps.
Folding the piece of tulle in half
Step 1: Cut the Tulle
Cut the tulle into a 24-inch piece. You can make the bow fuller or thinner depending on the width of your tulle.
Then folding it inward to form the bow
Step 2: Form the Bow Shape
Fold the sides inward toward the middle. Then fold each end toward the center to create the bow shape.
Once the bow looks even, pinch the middle together with your fingers.
Securing the center with thread
Step 3: Secure the Center
Wrap matching thread around the pinched center several times to hold the bow securely in place. Tie it off tightly.
Finishing off the bow and attaching it to the comb
Step 4: Add Ribbon to Hide the Thread
Hot glue a small matching ribbon around the center of the bow to cover the thread and give it a polished finished look.
The finished bow
Step 5: Attach the Bow to the Hair Comb
Thread a needle with matching thread and stitch the bow onto the hair comb. Place a few stitches through the ribbon section as well for extra security.
If you don’t sew, you can also glue a small piece of felt onto the top of the hair comb first, then hot glue the bow directly onto the felt.
I love it!
