How to Get Your Hair Out of Your Face with this Hair Tutorial

If you are growing your hair out or already have the longer hair you want, you may know about the annoyances of longer hair getting in your face. I love my longer hair now, but when I am running around outside with my pups or working out or am having a more annoying type of a day than usual (hair issues can make it worse, lol!), I style my hair accordingly, which is usually down, but off of my face. Here is how to get your hair out of your face using a curling iron and simple barrettes.

 Hair Prep

The first thing I did was wash and dry my hair at night. I do this because my wavy hair gets really fluffy after drying with a dryer and when I wash and dry it at night, it allows my hair a chance to settle, which makes it look sleeker. The barrettes work in long or shorter hair

I currently wash and condition using Viori’s products (get 10% off using code CAROLYNBRADEN or my discount link here to Viori.com), dry it with my Dyson (I have an older one, but this newer Dyson Dryer version on Amazon has good reviews), put some Morroccanoil Treatment in it (I get it here at Sephora, I’ve used it for over 10 years and still love it), and swirl it up on my head, covering it in a drawstring silky hair bonnet (Walmart) to prevent frizz.

Hair Curling

In the morning, I brush my hair, then spray in some Bumble and bumble. Bb. Heatshield spray for heat protection. I use my Beachwaver Multibarrel hair tool to curl my hair. I used the Classic Barrel attachment (the 1” barrel wand in the kit) for this tutorial.

In my 40’s and proud!

I let the tool curl my hair (I love how it rotates!) away from my face on one side, curled the back, the curled my hair away from my face on the other side. The tool rotates both ways, which makes curling in different directions very easy, especially if you have wrist issues.

I then lightly brush out, add more Morroccanoil treatment, then I spray it with Kristin Ess Finishing hairspray (Target). If it’s really humid, my curls usually fall a bit no matter what I do or what I use product-wise, so keep this in mind with your hair too if it’s wavy like mine.

However, I’ve noticed my Beachwaver curls lasting for days, loosening up a bit each day. I only wash my hair every 3 days, so it’s nice to not have to curl it every day and this saves it from heat damage.

Hair Barrettes

For this style, pulled back a small section of hair on one side of my face and snapped in a star flat hair barrette (Temu or get a version of star hair barrettes on Amazon for $5).

I have them in a heart shape too and you can see that biodegradable glitter hairstyle in my video below or via my YouTube channel @carolynjbraden.

I like the barrettes because they hold thick or fine hair. If you snap too much hair in them, they will not close, so a smaller amount of hair works best.

Outfit Details
I used black star barrettes, so I paired them with my black and white Adidas sneakers (comfy and save my feet from pain!), a long older black slip dress I already had from Target, a pearl and rhinestone jean jacket (Amazon), and my faux Birkin that I hand-painted. Get that easy tutorial on my website here. I added 2 different colors of neon hoop earrings to match the neon on my bag handles.

This outfit is a great date night outfit, a casual errand or lunch date outfit or anytime…it’s cute and comfy!
