I always liked reading scary mystery books when I was a young adult. I was drawn to them and couldn’t get enough. It must be something about the suspense, the thrill, and the BIG reveal that kept me turning the pages. Every time I went to the library, I always checked out a Christopher Pike book to read. I think I read all his books.

I still like suspenseful novels today and it must run in the family. Recently, my 13-year-old niece came for a visit and brought a bunch of scary books to read. She loved sitting in my egg chair to read, which inspired me to create the little “book nook” on my patio.
With Halloween being right around the corner, I wanted to share some of my favorite scary books, as well as some picks by my niece. Read on to learn some of our current favorite Halloween spooky books for young adults and teens.
Thriller Book Idea for Teens
1- Georgia McMasters in Amethyst Lake Cemetery by C.J. Braden
I must admit, I may be biased on this pick because I wrote it! Inspired by all the mystery books I read as a young adult; this one is a winner. It has suspense, spirits, animals, and lots of LOVE. I wrote it in memory of my grandmother, as it provided me a way to cope with her death. It truly is a winning read for young adults AND adults. Get it on Amazon by clicking here. Spooky Reads for Young Adults and Teens
2- The Harry Potter Series (All of them) by J.K. Rowling
If you haven’t read any of the Harry Potter books, but like scary mysteries, this is the series for you. The books are terrific, as they include some details that aren’t in the movies (and this is the case with many books that become movies!). 3- The Twilight Series (All of them) by Stephenie Meyer
My niece has been reading this series and loves them. They are HUGE books, but fast reads as they are very, very good. My niece was able to read one of them while the entire family was chatting away around her. When a young adult can do this, you know it’s a great book. 5- Any Christopher Pike Books
I loved them as a teen and the Amazon reviews prove they are still popular today. They are hard to find on Amazon in new format, though the Remember Me series is available. Try finding his books in local second hand bookstores or in local libraries.

6- R.L. Stine Books
Books by R.L. Stine have been popular for many years for young adults and teens. One of his series, Fear Street, got the attention of many current young readers. There are 36 books in the series.
