Classy Ways To Bring The Holidays Into The Home

The season is fast approaching, and it is once again time to get your home Christmas-ready. The holidays can be a bright, colorful, and cheery time but, for some people, it can also be a little too much. You might want to make sure that you’re decorating the home in the spirit of the season, but without going a little overboard with it.

If you prefer things that have a more subtle, classy approach, then here we’re going to look at six tips that can help you make Christmas in your home, precisely how you want to. Just take a look at the examples below.

Try matching your holiday decor to your home decor

Keep the color scheme simple

One of the reasons that you might be a little hesitant to lean fully into the traditional Christmas look is that you might think the mix of colors can be a little overbearing for the eyes, and you’re not alone in thinking that. However, sticking with a traditional Christmas palette, such as red and green, can help you scale things back and make it look much more cohesive. Some people really like the gold and white scheme for the holidays, too, which can lend the space a more sanctified air.

Try adding some cute Christmas mugs to add functional home decor

Turn your baubles into a vignette

If you want to keep your tree a little more on the sophisticated style, but you still want the shine and brightness that baubles can offer, then you can create a vignette of them, and other fitting Christmas decor objects, instead. You can fill a bowl with some of your favorites and put them in a place of prominence, be it on the fireplace, on a table, or otherwise. A little mini-Christmas scene can have quite a heartwarming effect without having to go all out.

Green and gold makes an elegant Christmas color palette

Bring in a touch of green

You might not want to let things get too colorful, but one thing that can really bring in the Christmas spirit is hanging up a little greenery. Aside from the tree, of course, garlands can be a great way to add a bit of that special festivity to a space. However, tidying up after a real garland can be a real chore, as anyone who has done it before can tell you. As such, you might want to take a look at some of the best artificial Christmas garlands on the market. Suppose you want to add a dash of more color or decorative impact to them, you can, too.

Try a live tree and plant it after the holidays

Opt for a smaller tree

Perhaps you don’t want your Christmas tree to dominate the entire living room, or perhaps you have multiple living or shared spaces and you don’t want a full tree for each of them. Decorating a mini-tree and erecting it as a focal point of the room is a great way to make sure that you bring in the spirit of Christmas without having to go overboard with it. It’s also a lot easier to make it look full and complete without having to lob dozens of ornaments at it.

Adding candles can warm up your holiday decor

Make your own candle holders

If you don’t mind doing a little DIY, then one easy way to take a minimalist approach is to skip those super decorative candle holders and go with something that looks a little more boho chic, instead. For instance, you can turn your clear wine bottles into some lovely holiday decor.

Fill them with a few cranberry branches, real or artificial, and insert a candle into the opening, making sure that you use sticky wax to create a stopper so that it doesn’t simply fall in. If you’re using real branches and want to keep them fresh, just remember that they need water now and then.

Adding fairy lights and natural wood can create a beautiful holiday scene

Be subtle with your lighting

Are you looking to light up your home for the holiday season, but you don’t want a display that has reams and reams of multicolored lights flashing off in every direction? There’s no need to go quite that extreme. Even a line of single-colored lights around the trim of the home, or some external lighting to bring visibility to Christmas decor elements on the exterior of the home can be enough to add that holiday warmth to the neighborhood. It’s not about how many lights you have, but how you use them.

However you want to celebrate the holidays in your own home, you should feel comfortable and confident in doing so, whether it’s going full tilt into the bright and colorful side of things, or with a more reserved and humble approach. Our tips can help you do the latter.
