As much as we all love some DIY, there are certain jobs that we should not tackle ourselves. We might save ourselves some money but we could end up costing ourselves more by having to get a professional out to fix the damage that we have caused. Even with as much DIY my husband and I do in our lives, there are times when we need help. And guess what? It’s okay to ask for help!
With this in mind, these are the jobs that you should leave to the professionals.

Electricity is a tricky thing and can be difficult to work with. This is why electricians have trained for years, it is for your safety and theirs. It is also a good idea to remember that your house insurance will not cover you if you have an electrical fault and the work has not been carried out by a professional. As expensive as they can be, hiring an electrician can be the best thing for your safety. Never mess with electrics if you don’t know what you are doing.
When my husband decides to do any electric work in our home, he sticks to what he knows, which is basic electrical work like installing lights and ceiling fans. He installed some super cute pendant lights in our kitchen as well as several other light fixtures around our home and saved us quite a bit of money.

Improving the insulation in your home is a top priority for most people, especially after the winters that we have been having. But adding insulation is not an easy job. In fact, it can be downright dangerous. Fibres can fly around when it is being installed and if you don’t have the right mask, you could breathe it in. You can learn more about insulating your home and why it should be left to the professionals. This also applies to removing the existing insulation in your home too.

If you have ever had a leak, you will understand why plumbers are so important. Having a local plumber comes in handy when your home’s plumbing system is out of order. The most inconvenient of these occurrences is when your plumbing requires repairs at odd hours when the situation cannot wait for working times. Many homeowners who have faced this harsh reality say the sooner the plumber arrives, the better it is. Ignoring what seems like small leaks can quickly escalate to become a major pipe break capable of flooding your home.
There is definitely a knack for dealing with leaky pipes and making sure that they don’t leak again. However, dealing with the larger plumbing system in your home is so complicated. It doesn’t take much for a simple job to turn into a big issue. Always leave the plumbing jobs to the professionals, especially when it comes to the heating system.
If you do ever decide to tackle any plumbing yourself, make sure you educate yourself. Watch A LOT of YouTube videos like my husband does. Then decide whether it’s something you want to attempt not.

Gardening
If you have a garden that is easy to maintain, then you can work away at it. However, if it is badly overgrown, you should get some professional help. A gardener has the tools to make your garden a haven, and create a space that is easier to maintain.
If you feel that you can’t tackle the garden in its current state, don’t be afraid to get it changed to something that you can manage. And don’t forget to think long term maintenance with your design too.
My husband and I recently hired a landscaping service to help us maintain our yard. While some people think it may be too expensive, we have news for you….it’s not! We merely adjusted our budget by getting rid of one of our television subscription services and cut a few other things out that we didn’t need. Having help with our yard was way more important than some other things, as yard work is truly HARD WORK and very time consuming.
Your car
General maintenance for your car should be a breeze, but there comes a time when you have a big issue. For the most part, you can probably have a search online and work out what you need to do to fix the issue. If you find yourself struggling, it is time to find a mechanic.
If there is an issue with the engine, this is best checked out by a professional because you don’t need a failure while you are driving as this can be dangerous for you and other road users.
