Winter Craft Ideas: How to Make Snow Day Sunglasses

I will often order craft supplies (I am loving Temu due to their low and competitive prices) and not really have a plan for them. Like many artists and crafters, I am drawn to certain things and I sometimes have no idea why at the time. I’ll set it on my desk and await the creative bug to come bite me. It always does and I love it.

My Snow Day sunglasses

I recently ordered a huge lot of white heart shaped sunglasses from Temu. You can also just order them by the pair, but I have a lot of cute ideas for them all. A while back, I ordered a set of polymer sprinkles from Amazon and the set came with lots of different shapes and colors, including a packet of snowflakes. At the time, I was going to use the sprinkles for a Sprinkle Sunglasses tutorial (get that tutorial by clicking here). I made a pair for my birthday and I made them colorful, fun and happy.

Me, being silly in my own design

It was summer and I was not quite on the winter wavelength so I set the winter themed sprinkles for another time. Then a cold spell hit our area of Sanibel Island, Florida, and while no snow was involved, it gave me an idea to create a pair of sprinkle sunglasses I call “Snow Day” sunglasses. It led me to create this article which is packed with other winter craft ideas I could see you creating on a cold day like me!

See me create these sunglasses in a one minute video below or via my YouTube channel @carolynjbraden:

When I was a kid, I always created on my days off. Anytime we had a snow day (virtual e-learning days weren’t a thing then), I’d use the time to have fun and creating crafts is my idea of a fun day. This project is extremely versatile as you can either use my idea for snowflake adorned glasses or add gemstones like I did on this glittery sunglasses tutorial for my YouTube channel.

I matched my navy blue eyeliner to the craft

I created love bug sunglasses for under $5 using Temu craft supplies was sitting on for a long while. Then a month before Valentine’s Day, the creative bug bit me! Get my love bug sunglasses tutorial by clicking this link. As you can maybe tell by now, I love creating fun sunglasses. Actually, I love adding a little color or bling to many things I create, including my resin and paint covered seashells project. Get that tutorial by clicking this link.

If you are looking for something to create on a cold winter day that’s easy and quick (and you probably already have the supplies on hand (just money!) try my Origami Dollar Bill tutorials. They have been extremely popular on my Pinterest and TikTok accounts or see an example in the video below or via my YouTube channel @carolynjbraden.

If you are ready to create this winter craft idea or something similar in your own design, here’s my step by step process for making Snow Day Sunglasses. Please note that it is very important to wear sunglasses on very sunny days no matter what time of year it is. Read this article by the Clarke EyeCare Center to learn more about why it’s important.

I love how the glasses glitter

I love this jacket with the snow day sunglasses!

If you like the fun embellished jacket I am wearing, it’s from Amazon. Link to it by clicking here. It’d be super cute for a country themed wedding! My glittery beanie is from Amazon too.

Directions:

1—Fold up your towel to the width of your sunglasses and wrap your sunglasses around it. This should help keep it flat.

The supplies needed for Snow Day sunglasses

2—Use your fingers or a wax pencil tool (you can pick up the alphabet beads with the wax pencil or your fingers) to lay out the alphabet beads (my spelled-out SNOW DAY) around the rim of the sunglasses OR lay them out where ever you want on the glasses. I do this so I can understand what I want my design to look like before gluing.

Laying out the letters before gluing is helpful

3—Once you know where you want to place the letter beads, start placing a dot of glue onto the back of each one and glue them onto the sunglasses.

4—If any glue oozes out, use the toothpick or the pointy ended cotton swabs to remove the excess.

5—Add some glue (I just carefully squeezed it out of the bottle) around the letter beads and sprinkle on the polymer snowflakes, tapping them into the glue as you go.

My rhinestone kit came with the plastic tray which is helpful in clean up

6—Add some glue around the bottom of the sunglasses on the rim and add some rhinestones. I used various sizes in a pretty blue color that matched the snowflakes.

7—Allow the glue to dry for 24 hours

Crafting and creating brings me peace and joy

8—Wear and enjoy!
