Little Mount Lavender Is Worth The Trip

If you live in Simpsonville, Kentucky (or are just visiting the area like myself) and are looking for a wonderful place to purchase gifts or eat a delicious lunch, then look no further. During my Hurricane Ian evacuation to my husband’s family home in Indiana, I was in need of some happy places to visit to temporarily take my mind off the long recovery period I face, and Little Mount Lavender fit the bill.

Read on to learn about why I think Little Mount Lavender is worth the trip.

A trip to Little Mount Lavender is lavender-scented joy.

If David Rose (of Schitt’s Creek) had owned a lavender farm instead of Rose Apothecary, Little Mount Lavender is what it would be. It’s welcome to all, no matter your background, looks, or style. It’s my kind of place.

Little Mount Lavender is located at 6905 Shelbyville Rd in Simpsonville, Kentucky. After seeing the local commercials while eating breakfast at my in-law’s home, I instantly knew I wanted to visit. It is Kentucky’s largest Lavender farm, but also has a cafe and a gift shop. The 1800’s building that houses Little Mount Lavender was the former Old Stone Inn, which many locals will be familiar with.

The items in the cafe and the gift shop are made with lavender from Little Mount Lavender’s farm. The items are also labeled with Kentucky Proud, meaning they are grown, raised or processed in Kentucky. According to the Kentucky Proud website, you are helping keep “dollars close to home” when you buy Kentucky Proud products, and this is especially important if you are Kentucky-based and conscientious about reducing the miles that the product has to travel.

If you live in the area of Little Mount Lavender, stopping in to shop or eat can be helpful to the environment, reducing your carbon-footprint. While I was at the cafe, I saw that Little Mount Lavender packages their take-out food in recycled paper containers. This is always my favorite thing to see in restaurants in lieu of traditional styrofoam.

While eating at the cafe, I ordered their lavender simple syrup infused lemonade and it was delicious. One may think that lavender would make it taste weird, but it did not. It was sweet and tangy, and PURPLE, just like the paint of many LML rooms, the takeout bags, the shirts of the servers and more. Purple is their brand color and you see this smartly used well throughout the buildings.

My sister-in-law, Susie, went with me to Little Mount Lavender and we split the charcuterie board as a part of our meal. It said it was for two, but it was so massive, we ate some, then split the leftovers and ate on those for a couple of days. I’ve seen some Google reviews saying that LML is “expensive”, but if you’ve ever tried purchasing the same amount of cheeses, meats, veggies and more that were on that plate for less than $40, it would not happen in today’s world at any grocery store.

I also ordered the Ratatouille, and it did not disappoint. I only ate a few bites, as the charcuterie filled me up fast. I had the leftovers for lunch the next day, and they tasted just as delicious. We arrived around 11:30 am on a Friday and were seated right away. As we ate, more and more people filtered in and it filled up quickly.

As I sat in the cafe, I saw the clientelle’s faces, and saw that everyone looked very happy. I imagine Little Mount Lavender being a perfect destination for a bridal shower (if they were open to it), a wedding (if they were open to that too), or for a gathering of friends.

The bath products I purchased at Little Mount Lavender

After we ate, we used the bathroom, which was painted purple. I love a gorgeous bathroom, and it appears that they are still working to perfect this room. I did, however, get to sample their lavender castile soap in this room, and slowly drifted past the lavender-infused dessert counter (I’ll be back to sample some of that at another time, but you could also purchase it to-go) into their gift shop to get some of my own to take home. I also purchased a Pet Bar for my dogs (which works and made them smell heavenly) and a bar of lavender soap for my husband, which he loved.

After eating and shopping, we gave ourselves a self-tour of the grounds. Little Mount Lavender is still very young, so I hope to see maybe a synopsis of their story and the history of the property on their menu (so I can read while I wait for my food) or on signs posted around the area at some point. My husband and I are a lover of historical buildings and love architecture. I especially loved seeing the old well on the back of the house.

If you can’t make it to Little Mount Lavender in-person, I highly recommend you visit the Little Mount Lavender website and shop some of their items online. While I am certain that their products are cruelty free (as they are a organic, small, local company and farm), I hope to see a cruelty free statement on their products at some point. I could have asked one of the owners, Jason and Jason, who greet guests while they eat, but I didn’t think about it at the time.

Overall, Little Mount Lavender made my day happy and I think it will make your day happy too. Go to LML to visit, eat, or shop online. You’ll be supporting a small business while adding a bit of lavender-scented joy to your life.
