DIY Pastel Spider Craft

I made two for my all-season tree

 The Crafty Inspiration

I came across the pastel popsicle sticks on Amazon and knew I would find use for them. I love pastel colors and know that traditional holiday colors can always be switched out when making crafts. I was on a spider kick during the Halloween season of 2025, so I decided to put them to use making an easy Halloween ornament for my driftwood tree. I’ve made tons of DIY ornaments that you can find here on my website via my “Search this Site” page. Just type in “ornaments” in the search box.

All-Season Tree

I’ve been using my all-season tree for a while now. It was once a branch that I sought out on a beach and as soon as I saw it, I knew it was going to be a tree I could fill with ornaments. I love making ornaments and decor for all the seasons and holidays. Having only an all-season tree is a very easy and simple way to decorate minimally, which is my style. Get my driftwood tree tutorial here (with a video tutorial included) and you can make it easily with any fallen branch you find in your hometown.

How to Make this a Kid-Friendly Craft

If you are making this with kids, swap out the hot glue for Aleene’s Tacky Glue OR even basic Elmer’s glue. I used hot glue because it’s fast and easy, but when kids are involved, you have to be careful so they won’t burn their fingers. I like to keep my hot glue gun on a low temperature for most crafts so I don’t burn myself!

I love the cute little eyes on my spider!

Kids may need help with weaving the web. It’s similar to a God’s Eye, which I made once with 2nd graders when I taught art. Kids at about age 7 can understand more complex weaving skills, and this is a form of weaving. If they make up their own way of weaving that works, let them. Give them room to be creative and I often learned easier ways to do things from my former students!

Starting to form the web

How To:

Pick out 4 popsicle sticks and hot glue two together to form a cross shape.

If you can’t get pastel sticks, you could paint them

Glue another at a diagonal and then finish gluing the last one at a diagonal.

Gluing the yarn on to start weaving

On what you want the backside to be, glue the end of the yarn to the mid-section of one of the popsicle sticks.

Weaving a Spider Web DIY Ornament

Weaving is simply going under and over

Weave the yarn around the sticks, going over, then under each stick. I did three rows of weaving, moving slightly up the sticks as I went. I cut the end of the yarn and glued it to a stick.

Finishing weaving the web

Next, I glued a pop pom in the center of the “web” for the spider’s body.

Adding the pom pom

Then I used scissors to cut 8 legs for the spider. I cut each to about 2-3 inches, bent them at an angle, and hot glued them to the base of the spider’s body, using the sticks for alignment.

Then I placed a bit of hot glue on the pop pom and glued on the eyes, and glued a loop of yard to the back of one of the sticks to turn it into an ornament for hanging.
