Easy Ways to Straighten Your Hair Without a Flat Iron
From the Dyson hair dryer flyaway attachment to all the air brushes and straightening brushes on the market, there are so many ways to get your hair straight without a flat iron. In this article, I’ll talk about some ways to get your hair straight without a flat iron. I’ve tested each tool myself and give you my results below.
My straight hair from the Dyson dryer and flyaway attachment
Don’t get me wrong as I love a great flat iron. I even wrote about my favorite budget friendly one in the video below or watch it via my YouTube channel @carolynjbraden:
Sometimes though I need to get my hair straightened fast and if I can do it with one tool, I’ll gladly try it. I have used several tools over the years that may be able to straighten your hair type without having to use a flatiron too.
Revlon One-Step Volumizer and Dryer
My hair type is 2B which is slight wavy. It’s also aging, color treated and highlighted and long. It’s on the think side too. My mom has super straight (type 1), very fine, color treated and highlighted hair and we used a Revlon brush dryer to get her hair straight. Granted her hair is naturally straight, but it worked to straighten my hair too. If you want to learn more about hair types, check out this article by healthline.com. They discuss your hair’s curl pattern, which is fascinating to me.
Using the Revlon dryer on my mom's hair
See the Revlon dryer tool in action in my YouTube video below when I had shorter hair:
In the photos of her hair, you can see how shiny and smooth we got it by using this tool. We washed her hair then I used this tool on high heat to get it mostly dry, then I used the low heat setting and the cool setting to get it super straight. It took some time but it worked to get her straight without a flat iron.
My mom’s Revlon tool results were great!
I bought one for my mom (she loved the results) and when my mother in law used mine, she loved it too! We saw it at TJ Maxx at a very discounted price (I think it was around $24) when she was visiting us and she bought it. It flew home with her in her suitcase. What a great travel souvenir!

Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer and the Flyaway Attachment
I bought my Dyson dryer many years ago and I like it. My husband uses it and loves it and we both love the product design. Mine did not come with the flyaway attachment, but it looks like the newest ones do. I bought the attachment separately after seeing a stylist use it on TikTok to get a very curly head of hair super straight.
One side done with attachment, one side not completed results
I first dry my hair with the pointed nozzle until it’s damp. The flyaway attachment magnetizes on and I simply touch it to my hair and go straight down my head from root to tip on high heat. I move in fast swoops until my hair is straight.
See it in action in my one-minute video below or via my YouTube channel @carolynjbraden:
I’ll pull up the top sections of hair to dry and straighten the underside sections of hair. I then brush it out and use a moisturizing styling cream to tame any residual flyaways (it’s called the “flyaway” attachment and it does pretty good on its own, but my hair likes a bit moisture added back in after I dry it.
My straight hair after using the Dyson flyaway attachment
Buy the dryer and the attachment at the following retailers:
Flyaway Attachment Only on Amazon (it’s off brand but the reviewers say it’s a great dupe)
Flyaway Attachment on Walmart.com (off brand again, but reviewers say it works and at $12.98, it’s a great price!)
I love this Dyson flyaway attachment!
Straightening Brush
This tool is kind of cheating as it has heat elements that touch your hair like a flat iron and you have to dry your hair with a separate tool before using it, but it counts as it’s not a flat iron. I bought a straightening brush when I was evacuated at my in-laws from Hurricane Ian. I left most of my hair tools at our house in a rush to get off Sanibel Island and I turned to this budget friendly tool as a substitute.
Before using the straightening brush
See it in action in my video below or via my YouTube channel @carolynjbraden:
For this tool, I dry my hair completely with a hair dryer. Then I add some heat protection spray and slowly brush it through my hair. I once saw a Florida woman using it on a TV show to calm her morning frizz (oh the Florida humidity!) and it worked.
After using the straightening brush
While this tool does not replace a straightener, it does get my hair mostly straight and I can even curl the ends under with it. It’s definitely a quick way to calm crazy hair!
