Why We Love Our Hulken Bag

Maybe it’s the former teacher in me, but I love a good bag. I called myself a “bag lady” when I was an art teacher because I would roll into school every day with numerous bags on my shoulders. There was so much to do as an art teacher in charge of over 500+ students art projects year-round for the 10 years I taught, and I always was having to bring things home and back to school. If the Hulken bag had been around when I was teaching, I would have bought one and here’s why.
I turned my love of the Hulken bag into a fashion photo shoot
When I was teaching, I had to have good bags that were sturdy and long lasting. I didn’t mind paying a bit more for a really great tote bag that would last. I really loved Scout totes because they were made out of a tarp-like material and very heavy duty. The only problem with them was they came in large sizes BUT got very heavy very quickly. At me being 5’1” in height, carrying the largest Scout bag loaded down with art supplies, binders and books really hurt my back and overwhelmed me at times.

I know the Simply Southern tote works perfectly for our beach days (we currently live on Sanibel Island) and did well when we owned an RV and went camping and to the lake. While the Scout bags and Simply Southern totes are great for lightweight items (or else they get too heavy for my back) the Hulken bag is different because it rolls.
Our laundry loves the Hulken bag!
I owned a folding rolling crate when I taught (and when I made special occasion cakes for lots of events) which were handy, but they were limited in size. When I first saw the Hulken bags, I was instantly drawn to their large size. I dreamed of all the cool things I could put into it!
The Large Hulken bag is massive
The Hulken bag has an attached platform that has wheels on it. The Large has 5 stainless wheels and the Medium has 4. The website says it will roll on grass, ice or shallow snow, but I have not had a great experience rolling it in most types of sand. Currently living on an island, I have been able to test this.
I love that you can roll or carry the Hulken bag
There are not many types of wheels that roll well in sand, though we did have luck with really large plastic wheels on our folding beach wagon. Hurricane Ian destroyed that, but I’d order it again as it was great on the beach! I’d carry the Hulken on my shoulders if I took it to the beach.
The Large Hulken bag has 5 stainless wheels
The Hulken has two large handles (reinforced with plastic so they don’t fray) and another reinforced handle for pulling. It also currently comes in a size Medium (16”x12”x20” and weighs 3 lbs.). You can either load it up and pull it or load it up and carry it on your shoulder. It also has a zippered flap so you can zip it completely closed.
This bag holds a lot of laundry!

My dogs think the Hulken bag is for them, but it’s not!
It’s a bag so big that I could sit inside it. My dogs want to roll around in it too (they LOVE riding in their dog stroller), but because it’s so thick, I don’t want them to get stuck or not be able to breathe well while in it as they are very small dogs. The Hulken website also says it is not recommended to transport living things.
I would use the Hulken to easily carry things for a weekend car trip
They are made out of a similar tarp-like material as the Scout bags (Hulken is made out of Polypropylene), and the one I ordered was massive. I ordered size Large which is 20”x16”x24” and weighs 4 lbs. I ordered the black Hulken bag in December 2023 because it went on sale. I do love the rose gold color too.
We traveled with our Hulken in January 2024 and it was great!
Even though I am not teaching in a classroom anymore, I still love big bags because we travel and plan to move this year (2024). When you move, there are always lots of little things that need to travel with you, and the Hulken will be my go-to bag for this purpose. It would be great for throwing a bunch of clothes in or packing for a quick weekend trip.
I use my Hulken when traveling by car (we throw our pillows and a few other things in it to schlep up hotel stairs or elevators), but with it being so lightweight and foldable, I could see it being able to be packed in a suitcase. If you roll it onto a plane, you would have to fold it up and place it in the overhead storage as it’s that big.
I love using the Hulken for laundry
I could see someone using the Hulken bag if they need to get groceries but live in a city without a car. The Hulken could roll down the street to your apartment if you live in a city like New York. I could also see the Hulken being great for mature adults who need help carrying grocery bags into their house.
The Hulken bag website description says the Large holds 5-6 full grocery bags, and the medium holds 2-3 full grocery bags. The Large holds 66 lbs. We have used it to carry several grocery bags into the house and carrying it up the stairs to our house was very easy. I even use it for laundry. With having our machines on the first floor, it is great for carrying large loads from our second floor main bedroom. Get the cute similar laundry vinyl decals I have on my machines via Amazon!
I love this bag for so many reasons!
It’s water resistant so if anything spills, it will not immediately ruin the bag. If I was still teaching, I’d be happily rolling this bag in and out of the school every day and think that if you have a need for a multi-purpose bag, you’d like the Hulken.
