Be Fearless To Be Free

Art by Carolyn J. Braden: You Must Trust

"Get comfortable with being uncomfortable." I first heard Jillian Michaels say this. I'm not sure she was the first to say it, but I like it. It definitely rings true in so many life situations.

We all are pushed in many ways to make changes in our lives, but often don't do it because we allow fear to take over our minds. We fear we won't have enough money. We fear losing our jobs. We fear someone won't like our ideas. We fear what others think of us. We fear the unknown. All that fear leads to us being uncomfortable and many humans do not like to be uncomfortable. That's a fact.

Here's an idea. What if we all stopped allowing fear to rule our life? What if we threw caution to the wind and actually started to take the steps to make the changes we know we should make? What if we actually became comfortable with being uncomfortable?

Years ago, my husband and I received many signs that we should sell our home. We even spoke with a realtor. After speaking with her, we realized we still had some work to do on our house if we wanted to get the most out of our investment. We also were fearful of what came after selling our house. At that time, we knew we didn't want to sell our house, move and work the exact same jobs in a new city. We really had some thinking to do. We continued on our renovations for a few years until we got the house to a good point. Then, we started receiving signs again that it was time to sell and move on to our next steps in life.

We started having numerous conversations about what to do job wise and figured out a plan. Once we had a plan (actually, we made several plans), the fear went away. We started to look into our finances, paid off many bills and figured out a plan for saving even more money. Once we did that, the fear of not having money diminished. We pushed fear aside and started living life with TRUST. We trust that our decisions are right for us. We trust the feelings in our hearts are pushing us to make the best happen.

None of this happened overnight. You must realize that making big changes in one's life doesn't happen in an instant. We are still in the process of selling our home and putting career plans in motion. It's taking a while, but it's happening. Any time fear starts to sneak back into our minds during this slow process, we ask ourselves this question: What is the worst that could happen?

Here are some questions that fear may bring up, but I've provided answers that can help you to squash the fear:

  • What if I lose some money? You can make more.

  • What if I lose my job? You can get a new one.

  • What if they don't like me? They aren't the right people for you to be around. Find other people that embrace you.

  • What if they say no? Find people that will say yes.

  • What if I don't like the changes I made in my life? Start the process of making changes again.

Some may think not living in fear is not that easy and I'm here to say it is. I've worked with and been around many people throughout my life that are too afraid to speak up, too afraid to make changes, too afraid to listen to their heart and they all make me very sad. There are so many people out there that aren't happy because they aren't doing what they should be doing with their life and it hurts my heart. Please, if you are reading this, let me leave you with these final words:

YOU MUST TRUST. STOP BEING CONTROLLED BY FEAR, FOR THAT'S THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN BE FREE. CREATE A PLAN THAT WILL HELP YOU MOVE AWAY FROM FEAR AND PUT IT INTO MOTION TODAY!
