When the dreaded night time potty calls your pet’s name, what do you do? What CAN you do? You get up!

Luckily it doesn’t happen too often with our 11 month old American Eskimo, Minnie Pearl. We limit her water intake right before bed to try to prevent this occurrence and it works well. We also try our best to make sure she potties right before it’s time for bed and are consistent with ours (and her) bedtime.

However, she does get up in the middle of the night occasionally (it happened this week, thus the comic inspiration) and I am ever so thankful to my husband who doesn’t mind doing those potty calls. She goes right away for him, then comes inside, gets her treat and goes back to sleep. Older and younger dogs tend to do this much more often. If your pet has this behavior every night though, I suggest speaking with your veterinarian to see if there could be an underlying health issue.

Minnie Pearl sleeps in a crate (we’ve crate trained all of our dogs) and we keep a water bottle attached to it’s side where she can drink small amounts of water if needed during the night. She definitely takes advantage of this sometimes! We purchased the largest water bottle we could find at our local pet store and it easily attaches to the crate with a hook. Our bigger dogs loved licking from it and Minnie Pearl does too! I also keep some water next to my bedside in case I get thirsty at night, so I figure pets may like this too!

I wish you a happy Friday!

Don’t forget my kids page- Tiny Treehouse Kids! I post my weekly Friday Funnies comic there too and it’s a kid and parent approved page!
